I wonder if someone could help me with the location of two places/townlands in the Clones area? I have been tracing my ancestors and have discovered that one branch came from a place called Caraventra but I can't find it on a map. The second place was called Ternahinch (although I have seen different spellings of this). Could anyone tell me where these places are? Perhaps the names may have been changed. My family seem to have been in the Clones area since 1790, on one side at least. I would be grateful for any information. With sincere thanks Lorraine

I have just returned form a long weekend in clones for a stag doo, organised by Mickey Dowds, and I just wanted to drop a wee line thanking you, the people of Clones, for making us all so welcome. We had a fantastic time and met some great folk. I hope there wasn't any mess or damage in our trail. Thanks again, Scott.

ternahinch is quite a big area just outside of clones, they have been some new housing developments built there recently and it has become more populated than it was over the past few years....you can acces ternahinch a few different ways, from following the roslea road you can turn off to it, and if you can locate a housingestate called cherry park (or millbrook either) the road that runs by there takes you to it!!

I am researching for an essay on Thomas Bracken for an assignment at Otago University. I would like to thank you for your short bio in the Hall of Fame as this was quite helpful. However, I should like to point out that there are a couple of inconsistencies.
Namely, your bio states that thomas emigrated to Australia in 1898. Thomas died in 1898, he emigrated in 1855.
Your bio also states that he won "OTAGO Caledonian Societies' prize for poetry" the correct name should read "Otago Caledonian Society's prize for poetry" as "Societies" would indicate that more than one society was instrumental in providiing the prize whereas, "Society's" indicates that he won the prize belong to the Society. Thomas also won the prize in 1871.

Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me with my ancestors who, I believe, came from the Clones area. Bernard Biggins and Catherine Currie had two sons. William married Elizabeth Winterson in NewtonButler around 1860 and Michael married Mary McFadyen in Glasgow in 1869. The two sons settled in Glasgow but I think their parents remained in Ireland. That's about all I know so any information would be a real bonus. Thanks.
