Junior Cowdy.

Pat King’s Junior Cowdy team were hosts to Lisburn last Sunday and performed very well on the day to go into the return leg 2.5 to 1.5 up. All matches were very tough but the Clones team performed very well to secure the 2.5 win with only dropping 3 holes in total. So it is all to play for when Clones go to Lisburn on Sunday week where a very exciting clash with Royal County Down awaits the winners of this round.

Eugene Mc Donald Memorial Trophy.

Best gross of the day was Donal O Reilly with a 75, best. Senior on the day was Mickey Connolly with a 69. May Weekend Results

The single stableford repeater held over the May Bank Holiday weekend was a great success and the Ladies club would like to thank everyone who took part. A special thank you to the competition sponsors Cootehill Credit Union, Whelan Footwear (Martin & Lynn Whelan) Supervalu Cootehill (John Foy) and Mary O’Toole & Co. The scores were fantastic and congratulations to Pascal Carbin winning the men’s prize with 43 points. In 2nd place a man who hasn’t had a win for many a year George Hamilton with 39 points and in 3rd place Martin Clegg with 38 points. The ladies winner with 38 points was Geraldine Igoe and indeed at one stage it looked as though Geraldine was going to be collecting 2 prizes then right at the last minute Lynn Whelan, one of the last ladies on the course on the last day of the competition posted a score of 36 points to claim second place. Our own Lady Captain Elaine Hamilton, not to be outdone by hubby George, also came up trumps and posted a score of 34 points to claim 3rd spot. So not only were the prizes sponsored by Cootehill, most of them are heading back there too!

Ulster

Four Ball.

Mickey Connolly’s team travelled to Bundoran last Saturday for the away leg of our first match. Conditions on the day were ideal for links golf and all our team found it a little strange with the amount of run on the ball in comparison to our own parkland course. The team managed to acquit themselves well and even though only managed to secure 1 point out of 5 and only 9 holes down in total which is not a lot from an away leg and much bigger deficits have been turned around at home, so it is still all very much to play for this Saturday at 12 noon when Bundoran visit us for the return leg.

Monthly Medal.

The second of this year’s Monthly medal competitions takes place this Saturday and Sunday so come out and play and support your club if at all possible.

Course Conditions

With growth finally beginning to take place our course is really starting to look fantastic and the condition of our greens are as good as they have been for quite awhile. Well done to Hugh John and Finbarr for the great work they are doing.

The ladies Spring League has now concluded and was very well supported, keeping the ladies on the course through the winter months. 8th March 2010

Harte Peat Winter League.

Week 4 and 5 were combined due to adverse weather conditions which closed the course for a number of days. Overall winner for the two weeks was Killian Brady with a fantastic score of 38 points. The highest score of the league so far. There is only a week or so left and a lot of teams on a similar score so make sure and come out and play this weekend and next week and help out your team get through to the playoff.

Texas Holdem.

A great night’s fun was had on Saturday night by everyone who took part in the Texas Holdem. A lot of expert players took part with high expectations but things don’t always go as planned and a few made the walk to the bar a lot earlier than they had expected. By contrast a few beginners held their nerve and made it to the final table of seven. Probably the most delighted of these was Ann Marie Hickey who was also one of the few women to play. Ann Marie wasn’t too disappointed in not winning once husband Kevin had walked to the bar earlier in the night. You may have to monitor that home P.C. Kevin, and yes Ann Marie you were not the first to leave the last table. Winner on the night was Bernard Mulligan who showed nerves of steel to win out over Denis Parker in second and Stephen Trant in third. Well done Bernard. If only the Golf went as well on Sunday Morning’s.

Kitchen Reopening.

Our club kitchen is reopening this weekend and is now going to be run by Jennifer Fitzpatrick. Jennifer comes with a lot of experience having trained in Killybegs and then working in a number of local Hotels and also running her own event catering Company.

So if you are out for a round of Golf please come in for a bite to eat either before or after and support Jennifer in her new venture which we hope will  be a great success for her.

Team 5 are in 2nd place with 261 and their 54 points came from Team Captain Brid Finlay 17, Geraldine Igoe 20 and Noeleen McCague 17, Team 2 remain in 3rd spot on 258 and their weekly score of 58 came from Team Captain Ann Keating 20, Kathleen Leonard 18 and Martha O’Grady 20. Still in 4th spot are Team 1 on 244 and their weekly 58 points came from Eileen Kerr 19, Lynn Whelan 19 and Helen Connolly 20 (notably no contribution from their Team Captain!) and finally Team 4 remain 5th with 219 and the weekly score of 53 came from Team Captain Joy Cassidy 19, Mary O’Toole 18 and Maureen Lynch 16. Well done ladies! Doesn’t it warm your heart to know that Bridie Keenan’s first ever 18 points was not required for her team but needless to say she will never forget the magnificent birdie on the 1st producing a great start of 5 points! Well done Bridie!

The league is now in its last week and concludes on Saturday 13th March, best of luck ladies!

The cost for 2 nights B & B and 2 dinners and golf Saturday will be €250.00. There are some titillating optional extras see posters in locker room for further details. Lady Captain Elaine requires deposits from ladies who are attending before March 8th.

22nd February 2010

Harte Peat Winter League.

A lot of players took advantage of the chance to play twice during the week in week two of the winter league and some great scores were returned but one shone out above the rest, none other than our past Captain prize winner Benny Igoe with a top class score of 37 points. All the more remarkable when he was able to do it on thirteen holes having had a ding on the last. That 20 handicap won’t last long Benny if you bring that sort of form into the summer. So remember try and play twice a week as it will help your team and the Club.

Texas Holdem.

Remember to keep Saturday night 6th March free for Texas Holdem in the Club house.

Captains Drive In

A very good crowd attended our Captain Olly Walsh and Lady Captain Elaine Hamilton’s drive in on Sunday. It was great to see them both hit very good drives in front of the big audience they obviously cope very well under scrutiny. Olly true to form kept his speech to the minimum and didn’t waste a minute, allowing Lady Captain Elaine her chance to have her say. Very best wishes to them both for the year ahead from everyone in the club. Many thanks to the ladies Committee for the lovely food they provided for the drive in.

Ladies Spring League

Week 3 results for the ladies were somewhat curtailed by the bad weekend weather preventing our weekend ladies from putting in a card however there were some fabulous scores returned during the week and the one everyone is talking about is that of past Lady Captain Teresa Fitzpatrick with an astounding 23 points! The pressure is off this year so she can concentrate on her golf! Well done! Teresa’s score of 23 along with Noreen McKenna’s 19 and Lady Captain Elaine 17 ensured that Team 3 maintain their lead and are now a massive 22 points ahead of team 2 who have climbed one place into 2nd despite only 2 cards being returned, along with Team 5 also in 2nd spot, both on 147 points. Team 2 scores came from Ann Keating 20 and Martha O’Grady 18. Team 5 had scores returned from Brid Finlay 16, Doli Maguire 15 and Noeleen McCague 16. Moving off the bottom of the league into 4th place are Team 1 who put together 50 points this week totaling 136. Well done to Eileen Kerr 17, Veronica McGorman 17 and Helen Connolly 16. Team 4 have slipped into last place with only 2 cards returned from the team now on 116 well done to Joy Cassidy 15 and Una McCarra 14. Wot no Golf?!

When we will be back playing golf? Blast this weather anyway I’m sure there are plenty of us who had new golf equipment for Christmas that we are longing to try out! According to the forecasters it’ll be another while yet anyway, ah well we’ll have to make do with make believe on the Wii!!

A few big Birthdays!

Congratulations to Mickey Dowds on his 50th birthday on St. Stephen’s Day and also birthday greetings to Catherine Farrell who also celebrated a significant birthday.

Alpha Bet

The letters drawn in the draw for the week ending 21st December 2009 were COME and there were no winners of the 4,000 jackpot. The 5 lucky dippers each winning 50 (as it’s Christmas) were Lynda Goggins Connons, Sarah Cassidy Corconnolly, Seamus Treanor Smithboro, David Wrafter Enniscorthy and Colm Kierans Aghabog. Well done to them! The jackpot is now 4,100 and the draw is every Monday night at the Golf Club.

Wedges

The last day of the Wedges Eclectic on Wednesday 16th December was hugely exciting with the tension getting to most players and the only man to rise to the occasion was Mickey Connolly who improved his score by five points. However this was not sufficient to overhaul the leaders and Joe Smith won the competition with 44 points, one ahead of long time leader, Charlie Browne. Other prize winners were Terry Lennon, Seamus McKiernan and Ivor Lendrum all on 42 points. The Wedges will recommence again sometime in the New Year.

Harte Peat Winter League 2010
